As Israel struck Qatar, South Africans saw echo of last decade of apartheid

Gonda Perez remembers the day South Africa’s apartheid regime bombed a refugee camp in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, during an air raid. It was in the mid-1980s. Perez was working as a dentist at a local hospital at the time and saw about 10 victims brought in on trucks serving as makeshift ambulances. One of the victims is etched in her memory.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Natangwe Ithete, this week, urged Namibians to maintain trust in local diamond marketing and sales company Namdia and commented the parastatal for its continued efforts to plough back into society. “I commend Namdia for its strong social responsibility efforts and urge all Namibians to remain confident and proud of this institution, which belongs to us,” said Ithete.

Tourism giant seal wage deal

The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) have reached an agreement on salary adjustments and performance rewards for the 2025/2026 financial year, bringing to a close weeks of wage negotiations. The agreement, signed on 17 September in Windhoek, underscores NTB’s commitment to fair labour practices and continuous improvement of working conditions for its employees. 

Petroleum local content policy wraps up

China-Nam relations can only get better - Weiping

The Chinese government has reiterated its willingness to deepen the friendship between Namibians and the People’s Republic of China through continued developmental assistance and support to the limits of its capabilities – while carrying out more people-oriented projects that will directly benefit the masses.  This revelation was made by Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Zhao Weiping. The ambassador made these remarks recently, as the two countries commemorate 35 years of partnership and bilateral relations.
