Hope Farm hailed as a ‘timely intervention’

Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform minister, Inge  Zaamwani described the recent launch of the Hope Farm Project, a public-private initiative, as the start of a journey that links national development goals to real and everyday impact.  Launched at Farm Daweb near Usakos, in the Erongo Region, the project is designed to strengthen livelihoods, create income opportunities and empower communities through sustainable livestock farming.

Oil should benefit youth - Shilunga

Special advisor and head of the Upstream Petroleum Unit in the Presidency, Kornelia Shilunga said that all stakeholders have a collective responsibility to ensure that oil discoveries benefits everyone, especially the youth. She said this at the recent second edition of the Youth in Oil and Gas Summit (YIOGS) at Walvis Bay, Erongo region.

Mbambo reflects on rise to press secretary

Newly-appointed presidential press secretary Jonas Mbambo says not even in his wildest dreams did he imagine holding the highest communication office in the land, yet, as of August 1, he will serve as the official spokesperson for Namibia’s head of State.
“I would be lying if I said I saw this coming,” Mbambo told Confidente in an exclusive interview on Tuesday. 

Epuikiro Squabbles dogs SWAPO primaries

The Swapo Party’s attempt to rectify the ongoing bungling up of the renewal of mandate process of all structures in Epukiro district and the nominations for the aspiring regional councillor candidates for the area, hit a snag on Monday. 
This is after Cornelia Shilunga, the party leader assigned to the region aborted a meeting that meant to mediate between two disputing factions, citing safety reasons.

Six Namibians repatriated as trafficking hits Asia

The Minister of International Relations and Trade, Ambassador Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, confirmed that six Namibian nationals were recently repatriated from Myanmar and Laos with the assistance of the United Nations (UN) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The  four women and two men were repatriated as part of efforts to combat trafficking in persons.

Hahn, Du Plessis scoop cross country titles

Hugo Hahn and Monique du Plessis were crowned the 2025 Nedbank Namibian Mountain Bike XCC, XCO and Cross-Country Championships, after two days of fierce competition at the Towerbos Trails, recently.

The event was organised by the Namibia Cycling Federation (NCF). Hahn produced a dominant performance in the cross-country olympic (XCO) to win the elite men’s title by coming home in a time of 01:21:27, followed by Martin Freyer, who clocked 01:26:55 and Theuns van der Westhuizen in third place after ending on 01:31:40.

Welwitschias’ 2027 world cup bid sketchy

THE country’s senior men rugby side, nicknamed the Welwitschias is in danger of losing out for a place at the 2027 Rugby World Cup, following a defeat to Zimbabwe in the final of the Africa Cup over the past weekend in Kampala, Uganda.  The match recorded 30-28 points, which resulted in Zimbabwe qualifying for its first rugby world cup since 1991.
