The Young African Football Club, a Gobabis based outfit playing their trade in the top flight domestic league has acquired a plot measuring six hectares at a cost yet to known to build its own state-of-the-art stadium, gym and dwellings for its players.
The club owner, former Brave Warrior's talisman, Maleagi Ngarizemo, told Confidente that approached the municipality of Gobabis to purchase the land which is now in its final stages of approval.
Young African, who finished second in the top flight league, has grown in leaps and bounds in a few years, and is repeatedly fighting for top honours with big clubs such as Africans Stars.
Just recently, the club proved to be a thorn in the flesh of Star's in both the Hage Geingob and MTC Maris showpiece, in which it played in both finals.
Ngarizemo says they have secured the services of a town planning and quantity surveyors to kick-off the construction of the project in due course.
"We want to build something more or less like Kaizer Chief's has which is the Naturena village or what Mamelodi Sundowns has where we have a stadium, and maybe two others small ones for the young players, a gym, accommodation facilities for players and offices," said Ngarizemo on Monday.
The club, he added, has secured funding from an international partner to build the facilities, which is estimates to cost approximately quite a hefty price tag.
The club owing to its feat in the domestic league has also been drawn to play in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup against top clubs in the region.
Young African Football Club has confirmed that their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Royal Leopards FC of Eswatini will take place at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana.
The match is scheduled for Saturday at 15h00.
Young African will play their homes games in Botswana due to a lack of FIFA approved stadiums in Namibia.
He elaborated on the administrative obstacles involved, noting that CAF imposed a strict deadline, 19 September for finalising and confirming match venues.
After extensive outreach, only the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) responded with official approval within the designated timeframe.
Ngarizemo says they have signed six new players from across the African continent and locally to boost their prospects of winning the CAF spectacle, saying plans are afoot to also organize friendly matches to test his players readiness and fitness ahead of the crucial encounter.
"So far so good. This is out fifth week in training and we are playing a friendly game against Bucks Buccaneers and a team from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) next week. We have signed up new players and we are assessing the team's readiness against the opponents. We acquired good quality players although we are still expecting a few more," he disclosed.
The club will be provided with USD 100 000 by CAF to prepare for the competition, he confirmed, monies which is yet to land in his hands are they race against time to tie all lose ends.
"We have not received anything yet from CAF. This preparations are just out of our own pockets and a few people who have pledged to assist the club," he emphasized.
The decorated former national mens football team stalwart, did not mince his words against the lack of acknowledgement or sponsorship on the part of government towards both his clun and Stars, who are due to compete in the CAF champions league.
Ngarizemo says the defeaning silence of the government leaves him at pains, saying Young African and Stars are going to represent Namibia, and therefore, a sponsorship of sorts will be well deserved. "We are going across Africa to fly our flag high against these clubs from other nations yet the government has not said anything. It clearly shows you why our football and infrastructure is in the mess in which it finds itself," he retaliated. After the match in Botswana, the team will immediately travel to Mbabane, Eswatini, to play the return leg of the fixture at Royal Leopards FC’s home ground.
