Erongo RED upgrading prepaid meters
By Rudolf R. Gaiseb
ERONGO RED Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Immanuel !Hanabeb says the organisation is upgrading its 39 416 prepaid meters.
Speaking at a press conference at Walvis Bay, !
Hanabeb said that over 7,409 meters, mainly in Omaruru, Karibib, Okombahe, Usakos, Uis, Omatjete, and surrounding areas, have been upgraded.
“We are almost closer to finishing these areas. This represents about 19 per cent of completed meters.
“We started with smaller areas so that, once we are done with those areas, maximum resources and time can be deployed in two major towns – Walvis Bay and Swakopmund,” said !Hanabeb.
According to !Hanabeb, the need to upgrade comes after Erongo RED received directives from the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) Association regarding changes that will go into effect in November 2024.
This, he said, will affect not only meters with Erongo RED but all STS-compliant meters all over the world.
