8 000 students abandoned amid pandemic

THE Covid-19 crisis has forced the education system worldwide to find alternatives to face-to-face classes. As a result, about 8 000 students from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and the University of Namibia (UNAM) were left in the dark without access to internet devices in order to access e-learning, Confidente can exclusively reveal.

Statistics provided by the NamibRe board chairperson Faniel Kisting also show that only two percent mainly in private schools of the total schoolgoing learners from grade 1 to 12 had access to facilities required to have e-learning.

Speaking to Confidente this week, Kisting also stated that as a result this has led to a massive dropout of students.
