PROMISING 800m Under-17 Pupkewitz champion, Shifidi Simon has appealed to the nation to help him buy new spikes to help him defend his title this Saturday at the Pupkewitz Open Athletics Championships in Swakopmund.

Simon (16), who has been running with old spikes, won the 800m Under-17 race in Swakopmund in March this year.

Simon, who was born into a previously disadvantaged family, has been training in Swakopmund for the past few days in preparation for the Pupkewitz Championships.

The Championships also serve as part of his preparation for the North-West University (NWU) Top 30 Championship, which will take place in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

At the Pupkewitz Championships, Simon will represent his Ohangwena Athletics Club and attempt to defend his 800 m title.

Simon told Confidente in an interview ahead of the Pupkewitz Championships that his ambition is to qualify for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, and that he looks sharp and ready to defend his 800 m title.
