THE Minister of Health and Social Services has revealed that 98.2 percent of babies born to HIV positive women are now HIV free.
This was mentioned by the ministry’s executive director Ben Nangombe this week who further said the percentage of babies born HIV free by positive women is a great stride as it indicates a success in the implementation of the Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) programme.
“This is a great accomplishment indeed.
Namibia has also developed a roadmap to eliminate MTCT of HIV and congenital Syphilis by 2024.
The PMTCT programme also targets 100 percent of all pregnant women attending antenatal care services to be tested for HIV by the end of the quarter of 2020-2021,” he said.
