Brave Warriors to pocket N$23m if they beat Angola
By Michael Uugwanga
THE Brave Warriors will earn U$1.3 million (N$23.4 million) if they defeat rivals Angola in the round of 16 of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.
This is Namibia’s first appearance in the round of 16.
So far, the Brave Warriors have received a U$800,000 (N$14.4 million) in prize money under the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) new prize money policy, which states that each team in the group stage will receive that hefty sum.
The Brave Warriors advanced to the round of 16 after finishing as one of the third best-placed teams in a group, securing a spot in the knockout stage for the first time after four attempts at the AFCON since their debut at the 1998 AFCON in Burkina Faso, where they only collected a point in a 3-all draw against Angola.
The Brave Warriors also participated in the 2008 AFCON in Ghana but could only salvage a draw against Guinea in a 1-all tie. Current Brave Warriors coach Collin Benjamin captained the side.
