Simon Jr set to make comeback in December

• By Michael Uugwanga

AFTER rumours that boxing sensation Harry Simon Junior has left African Connection (AC) Boxing and Fitness Academy, the pugilist has come out to set the record straight saying that he is still with the stable and is expected to make a return to the ring next month in a super-lightweight division bout.

Simon Jr, 23, who is undefeated from 14 fights is son to former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) world champion Harry Simon and last fought in April this year against fellow countryman Dominikus Edmund.

Simon Jr was with MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy in April and due to ill-discipline his contract was terminated by Sunshine chairman Nestor Tobias; leading him to join African Connection.

However, Simon Jr was not one of the undercards at AC Boxing Academy’s boxing bonanza that was staged in Windhoek last month, which prompted some to conclude that the young boxer had once again been shown the door.

Speaking to Confidente Sport this week, Simon Jr said that he is happy at AC Boxing Academy and that he still believes that he has what it takes to be a world champion.

So I am inviting all my boxing fans to come support me and watch me put up a big show in order to show them what boxing is really all about.

“When there was no boxing for nearly 18 months due to Covid-19, most boxers lost their only income.

I am 23 and my boxing career can go until at least to 35 years, so I am working very hard to become a world champion soon,” said Simon Jr.

The young boxer has decided to take up another job to supplement his income.

“I got a job as a business assistant and brand ambassador at a local private company RND holdings (Pty) Ltd where I am also learning business and financial skills for my future.

“I am based in Windhoek due to work and boxing, but at times I do go visit my family in Walvis Bay when I am off,” said Simon Jr.
