Volleyball fever grips Kunene Region

THE sport of Volleyball has finally gain momentum in the Kunene Region, thanks to the establishment of the Kunene Volleyball Association (KVA) under the leadership of its chairperson, Kauanda Mbaru.

Kunene Region hosted its first volleyball competition between 02-04 September as a starting block to introduce the sport to the people of the region.

The tournament which was sponsored by Kunene Spar took place in Opuwo and was contested by six clubs, namely Opuwo Ball Buster A Volleyball Club (VC), Opuwo Ball Buster B VC, Old boys VC, Epupa VC, Orumana VC and Putwavanga VC.

Opuwo Ball Buster A won the tournament  and was awarded a trophy, 12 gold medals and prize money amounting to N$1200, followed by Opuwo Ball Buster B in second place with 12 silver medals plus N$800 cash and third placed team Old Boys received 12 bronze medals and N$500 in prize monies.

Currently we only have Kunene Spar in Opuwo that is willing to assist us with the development of the sport.

We are still encouraging other private and public entities to come on board and to partner with us for betterment of volleyball in the region.

On the same vein we visited our regional leadership in the ordinary council meeting and they pledge to help us.
