A Shipena scoops COPA Coca-Cola Khomas regional

THE dust finally settled in the Khomas region after Katutura-based A Shipena Senior Secondary School (SSS) defeated crosstown rival Concordia by 5-2 to clinch the regional title over the weekend.

In their well-fought campaign, A Shipena SSS also saw off contenders from Windhoek Technical High School (HTS) by 4-1. The football action saw teams from HTS and Chairman Mao Zedong give it their all but at the end of the day it was A Shipena SSS that came out victorious.

In Kavango East, Neyuva SSS beat Andara Combined School (CS) by 3-0 to clinch the regional final that featured amongst others Noordgrens SSS, Andara CS and Shambyu Combined School.

In //Karas region, Lordsville Combined School won the regional competition after the newly crowned champions defeated Lüderitz Junior Secondary School (JSS) by 2-1 and went on to play to a one-all draw against PK de Villiers.

Namibia National Schools Union (NSS) national director Solomon Duiker said the only challenge they faced to date was the lack of soccer balls and equipment, but fortunately they managed to distribute these to the regions while the playing gear for the schools still scheduled to compete will be distributed this week.

He described the competition as highly competitive and expects the national finals scheduled for 26 and 27 July to produce fireworks. Duiker added that the national finals, where a national team will be selected for the Africa Cup will either take place at the DHPS that has two adjacent soccer field, or at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

This weekend schools from Hardap, Kavango West, Omusati and Ohangwena region will compete for top honours.
