Abandoned school falls apart in Oniipa

• By Allexer Namundjembo

GOVERNMENT has closed down the Oshigwedha Primary School in Oniipa, Oshigambo circuit, due to low student enrollment, says the Oshikoto Region Education Director, Aletha Eises.

The school’s deteriorating condition, with roofs blown away by the persistent storms, mirrors the region’s more significant educational infrastructure crisis.

“The decision was made due to the low number of students enrolled at the school since there were insufficient students to support the school,” she said. Eises added that an evaluation was conducted through the circuit office (Oshigambo Circuit) to determine the number of school-aged children in the area.

I asked if the ministry is considering reopening the school, and the director said it will only do so if the number of students is sufficient to start and support the school.
