ACC nabs Oniipa councillors

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday arrested three Swapo councillors, two still serving in the Oniipa town council in Oshikoto whilst one is no longer a councillor.

The trio is made up of mayor David Kambonde (47), Thomas Matsi (78) and Hileni Idhogela (47). They are charged under section 35(3) (a) and section (35) (3) (b) of the Anti-Corruption Act for using their office for self-gratification as well as providing a false document to an ACC agent. According to the charge sheet, the three are accused of having abused their office by unlawfully favouring an individual who came second in an interview conducted in the council in 2018.

During the interview, which Confidente is informed was for a post truck and heavy machine operator, the three accused persons allegedly recommended an individual who came second in the interview instead of the top scorer. The person is allegedly a relative of one of the accused.
