ACC sweats over 400 case backlog

… as budget is still bone of contention in corruption fight

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) which according to the latest government accountability report has been battling a case backlog of nearly 400 cases, managed to deal with only 25 of the cases earmarked for investigation in the previous financial year, Confidente understands.
At the end of the 2019/20 financial year, the anti corruption watchdog which has reportedly been hamstrung by an inadequate budget pushed 370 cases into the current financial year with 334 of those having been carried forward from the 2018/19 financial year raising fears of slow investigations and a dent in the fight against corruption.
