OKAHANDJA residents are in for a treat when the town’s best young talent parade at Okahandja Primary School (OPS) Sports Field for the first edition of the School Sports Masters Cup Champions on October 28.

Tennis, chess, 7-a-side Rugby, 7-a-side Soccer, Netball, 100m sprints, and relays will be among the six athletic codes in which the future stars will compete in age categories ranging from 13 to 15.

A first of its kind, the School Sports Masters Cup Championships will give young athletes a platform to demonstrate their abilities at an early age.

OPS public relations officer and fundraising committee member Ogran Gonteb told Confidente they intend to make the school’s sports programme competition an annual event.

“The Okahandja Primary School Master Cup is a platform created by OPS where the best students from various Primary schools in Okahandja can showcase their athletic abilities and compete against each other in multiple sports disciplines. Individual events, team events, or a combination of both will be included in the Cup. The goal is to instil excitement and school spirit in the Okahandja school community, generating a sense of pride and unity.

“Despite this being the first of its kind, the goal is to make it an important part of the school’s athletic programme. It is meant to encourage the best students to participate in physical activities to improve their athletic ability and promote a healthy lifestyle. The plan is to hold the event every year,” he explained.
