THE the athletics season is set for a restart on January 28 in Swakopumd, with the Athletics Namibia (AN) Grand Prix, AN could have not asked for a better time to introduce the Time Tronic Electronic Time System it received from Debmarine Namibia, late last year.

The Time Tronic Electronic Time System, also known as Electronic Photo Finishing System is used to capture results immediately after a race was purchased from Belgium by Debmarine Namibia at an amount of N$405 000.

Upon receiving the machine, AN president, Erwin Naimwhaka said the system would enable the country to host international events, that serves as qualifiers to major competitions such as to the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and to the Commonwealth Games.

“This is a good Christmas gift, meaning our Christmas is already sorted, we highly appreciate it. The new system will encourage us and also give us opportunity to host major competitions since the one we had had been outdated,” Namwhaka said.

AN patron, Ebson Uanguta said the new system would results in more athletes raising the country’s flag on the world map, saying the system will not only benefit AN.

“This Time Electronic Photo Finishing System is of international standard and it is not only for AN but athletics in general,” Uanguta said.
