Buy-a-Brick project hosts first Acapella Festival

By Confidente Reporter

STANDARD Bank through the Buy-a-Brick initiative successfully hosted the inaugural Standard Bank Buy-a-Brick Acapella Festival last Saturday.

The night saw three-time Grammy Award winners Soweto Gospel Choir steal the show with their all too powerful voices. Other acts included The Soil from South Africa, Focus Acapella from Zimbabwe, VMSix, Vox Vitae, Collective Singers and the Broken Metronomes. All proceeds go to the Buy-a-Brick initiative under the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia to build more houses for the less fortunate.

“We appreciate that Namibians turned out in numbers, not only to celebrate good music by top local and visiting Acapella music groups, but also to contribute to the Buy-a-Brick Initiative which is geared towards building houses for Namibians in the no and low-income category,” said Standard Bank head of marketing and communications Magreth Mengo.

She added that there were not any major incidents reported during or immediately after the concert.

“We thus thank organisers and the sponsors, for making the event a resounding success and the music lovers for their good behavior which contributed to the overall success. We hope you had fun and we truly appreciate your efforts in helping the Buy-a-Brick Initiative grow from strength to strength.”

Standard Bank also thanked all the Acapella groups that put up excellent performances during the festival and hoped to having them back to support such a worthy cause again if called upon.  “This was the first-ever Acapella Festival in Namibia and judging by the feedback received after the event, this was definitely not the last of its kind,” Mengo enthused.
