Attie Beukes’ life was a lesson in political activism

The leader of the Communist Party of Namibia and veteran of the country’s liberation struggle, Attie Beukes, died in a Windhoek hospital on May 17 after a long illness. He was 69.
His death was confirmed by the family via a post on his Facebook account.

“It is with great sadness that we as a Beukes family herewith inform all our family, friends and comrades the passing of Attie Beukes,” the Facebook post states.

“The calibre of this kind of freedom fighter will be sadly missed as people like him are born in a thousand of years,” the family added.
