BAN to promote sound banking practices

• By Confidente Reporter

BANKERS Association of Namibia (BAN) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brian Katjaerua says the newly introduced Banking Practice Code promotes sound banking practices by establishing minimum standards for banks when dealing with customers.

Katjaerua said the Banking Practice Code would increase transparency to understand better what customers can expect from bank staff, products, and services.

“The Code will promote fair and open working relations between customers and banks and foster confidence in the banking system,” he said.

Meanwhile, outgoing BAN chairperson and Bank Windhoek Managing Director Baronice Hans says her tenure, which included finalising the BAN strategy, solidified the association’s vision and mandate in the economy through advocacy, market conduct, and corporate social responsibility.

Hans coordinated the implementation of numerous regulatory projects matched with industry requirements, including a N$600 000 donation to the Bank of Namibia (BoN) for this year’s population census and an additional N$200 000 contribution to NIPBD (Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board) for critical legislative interventions in the foreign investment area.

She emphasised major achievements reached during her term focused on client centricity as the foundation of every choice made by the association throughout the 2022/23 period.
