Bank Windhoek supports Northern Real Estate Industry

Bank Windhoek has demonstrated its
dedication to supporting the property
market in Northern Namibia
while recognising the efforts and hard work
of estate agents. The annual Bank Windhoek
Real Estate Agent Awards, recently
held in Oshakati, highlighted the Northern
market as dynamic and ever evolving.
“In 2024, Bank Windhoek financed 281
transactions worth N$226 million in the
northern region, with Rundu accounting
for 109 of these transactions, contributing
N$90 million to the total value.”
Bank Windhoek’s Chief Financial Officer
and Interim Executive Officer for Specialist
Finance, Zenaune Kamberipa, shared
these figures at the event. He explained that
the real estate sector is more than just buying
and selling property.
“It is about creating opportunities, fostering
relationships, and building the future
Northern Namibia is,” he said.
Kamberipa encouraged estate agents that
while celebrating achievements, challenges
within the industry must be recognised.
He said, “One of the biggest concerns
in Namibia’s real estate market remains
land delivery. The demand for affordable,
serviced land continues to outpace supply,
making homeownership difficult for many
Namibians. The high cost of land, lengthy
bureaucratic processes, and limited infrastructure
development in key areas create
significant barriers.”
Bank Windhoek’s Far North Regional
Manager Elisse Mire Christof said 2024 was
a good year for the market.
“We credit the collaboration between the
estate agents in and around northern Namibia
for the growth of the north property
finance book,” she said.
Awarded as Estate Agent with the Highest
Volume of Transactions and receiving
a Bronze Award was Simeon Iita from
Hippo Real Estate. He said the main challenge
within the industry in 2024 was the
increased repo rate, which almost brought
his business to its knees. Despite these
challenges, Iita said his focus remained
optimistic to provide for the needs of his
customers.
Additionally, he said Bank Windhoek is
accessible and has efficient service that motivates
more sales. Awarded as an achiever
of the year in the category of sales of up to
N$7 million and more, Ester Likuwa from
Estern Properties received the Bronze
Award. Happy to be recognised within the
real estate industry, Likuwa said that while
facing challenges with her business and client’s
finances, many ups and downs were
prominent, but she remains committed to
selling property.
“In the future, I look forward to selling
more property and receiving an award
within the sales category from N$20 million
and more,” she said.
The Bank Windhoek’s Annual Estate
Agent Awards recognises residential and
commercial estate agents, agencies, and
developers from the central, coastal and
northern regions for their commitment,
loyalty, and support to Bank Windhoek and
its customers.
