Basketball Independence Cup to honour late former Pres Geingob…asks for potential sponsors to come on board

KHOMAS Basketball Association (KBA) president, Carlos Manuel says the annual basketball Independence Cup, which begins this weekend and runs until March 21, will be held in remembrance of the late President Dr Hage Geingob.

Despite financial restraints that have seen the sport decline in recent years, there has been significant progress in restoring the sport to its past glory, where it was regarded as one of the most popular in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The Independence Cup, which was introduced in the early 2000s, will be played at the University of Namibia (UNAM) gym hall and is expected to produce fireworks, as some of the country’s renowned top teams, such as Unam Wolves, who have been the dominant force since 2017, will be looking to reign its supremacy, but they will have to overcome former dominant teams in Unam Rebels, and other groups such as Titans, Lions BC, and Tomahawks, who have demonstrated in the last few years.
