Boxing board members to be retained: Tjongarero…Minister unaware board members receiving sitting remuneration

SPORTS Minister Agnes Tjongarero has announced that the current Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (NPBWC) will continue to serve in their capacity beyond their term of office, which is expected to come to an end in April.

Hockey player Magreth Mengo chairs the NPBWC, and the board is comprised of Sebastian Shituleni, lawyer Veruschka De La Harpe, financial specialist Irene Shebo, and retired veteran boxer Jason Naule.

However, Naule, a former professional boxer, is no longer a board member since he has faced criminal charges from his time as a National Assembly employee.

Upon appointing the current board in 2021, Tjongarero urged board members to prioritise the amendment of the current Boxing Act of 1980,
