Cabinet approves establishment of public health institute

The Cabinet’s approval of the Namibia Institute of Public Health is a significant step towards efficiently coordinating the response to public health threats, a move that underscores the government’s commitment to public health.

Health minister Kalumbi Shangula has said the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the urgent need for the establishment of the NIPH, whose core pillars are Public Health Workforce Development, Public Health Emergency Management and Public Health Workforce development, Public Health Emergency Management and Public Health Emergency Operations Centre and Public Health Operational Research.

“The NIPH is envisioned to play a critical role in generating, synthesizing, and interpreting data and using this information to make recommendations to support the ministries in making informed policy and programme decisions”, Says Shangula.
