Can Chula Chula unite the nation?
By Confidente Reporter
We have all seen the northern phenomenon called Chula Chula attracting huge crowds of soccer-hungry fans with every appearance. It does not matter whether it is in the north, central Namibia or the capital, where other teams play before yawning stadiums, Chula Chula has had some magic following.
Playing in Windhoek last weekend could have been one of the most daunting tasks for Chula Chula, but they managed to pull the largest crowd of soccer-loving, curious-eyed and fun-starved fans in as many years.
So they came from the opposition parties to cheer. They also came from every tribe to cheer. There were all ages – women, men, boys and girls.
A united lot that gave meaning to Sam Nujoma’s One Namibia, One Nation.
Cross-regional players Eeshoke Chula Chula’s executive member, Thamila Ambrosius, says the team comprises players from all the regions. “The thing about our club is that we are accommodating people from all parts of the country. We also accommodate people’s ideas and not only the management making decisions.
“We have strong followers on different platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp. The team is for the people. Remember that when we were playing in the second division, people would come out in big numbers whenever they heard that the team was playing,” Ambrosius says.
