Capricorn foundation donates infusion pumps to Gobasis state hospital

The Capricorn Foundation has donated ten vital infusion pumps, valued at N$264,500.00, to the Pediatric Ward of Gobabis State Hospital.

These essential devices are crucial for administering fluids to the malnourished children admitted to the ward, providing much-needed support in a region grappling with severe malnutrition issues.

Recent reports have highlighted the gravity of malnutrition in Namibia, with nearly 2,000 cases recorded across the country this year alone. The Omaheke region, where Gobabis is located, has been particularly hard-hit, with 300 cases reported between January and June 2024. The Capricorn Foundation, known as Connectors of Positive Change, has prioritized health under its mission, focusing on improving nutrition and enhancing access to healthcare.

The donation was officially handed over in a ceremony attended by Ismael Pijoo Nganate, Governor of the Omaheke Region. He expressed his deep gratitude, emphasizing the critical timing and importance of this donation amidst a crisis exacerbated by drought and food insecurity.

“I express my sincere gratitude to the Capricorn Foundation for donating these ten infusion pumps to the Gobabis District Hospital Pediatric Ward. Our most vulnerable are children, and they cannot stand for themselves. This donation comes at a critical time and demonstrates the importance of collaborative efforts in improving healthcare services,” said Governor Nganate.

The Capricorn Foundation is steadfast in its commitment to uplifting the lives of Namibians, particularly children in need. Ms. Muukua, the Foundation’s Coordinator, stated, “We are grateful that we can make a difference in the lives of Namibians, especially children. Our support for the Gobabis State Hospital Pediatric Ward falls under our health focus area, where we address health-related issues and support better health outcomes.”

The foundation’s dedication to this cause was evident when they visited the hospital in March 2024 to better understand the malnutrition situation in the Omaheke region and identify how they could best provide support.

This recent donation of infusion pumps builds on previous efforts by the Capricorn Foundation. In February 2024, they partnered with the Nutrition and Food Security Alliance of Namibia (NAFSAN) to provide nutritional and protein-rich food items valued at N$291,000.00.

Through these ongoing initiatives, the Capricorn Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the healthcare system and improving the lives of the most vulnerable in Namibia. Their efforts underscore the power of collaborative action in addressing critical health challenges and making a positive, lasting impact on communities in need.
