Cemetery guards bemoan poor conditions

SECURITY guards manning the Oponganda cemetery in Katutura have bemoaned what they term deplorable conditions at their work site.

The guards have to make do with makeshift shelter made of poles, plastics and boxes while guarding the cemetery exposing them to severe weather conditions characterised by heat and recently heavy rainstorms.

The cemetery is home to 4 500 adult and 6 900 child graves.

“The cemetery does not have lights for us to see who is stealing from the cemetery. We usually misidentify thieves thinking that they are ghosts.

When it is raining (during the day) we have to be in the toilets.

We stay outside when it is in the evening because we cannot hide in the toilets when it is raining.
