Chula Chula’s Leevi opens up on Brave Warriors axing …Still want to play for the national team

By Michael Uugwanga

Eeshoke Chula Chula’s Alfeus Leevi has opened up about his axing from the Brave Warriors squad last month amid indiscipline after arriving late for national duty, which ended his hope of a call-up by Brave Warriors mentor Collin Benjamin.

Undoubtedly, the 22-year-old Levi is the vocal panicle of Chula-Chula, a newly promoted side to the Debmarine Premiership that is causing problems for the big boys in the division. His performance for his team prompted a call-up to the national team ahead of last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea and Sao Tome and Principe, respectively, but did not materialise because of the discipline issue.

Despite failing to represent the country against Equatorial Guinea, which Namibia lost 1-0, and a convincing 2-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe, Leevi managed to help his team beat Africa Stars 1-0 in the Dr Hage Cup on 18 November, which saw his team collecting a cool N$250 000.

“Something happened, but whatever happened is all in the past.

Now, I am focusing on myself and my team, and I’ll do anything possible to prove to the nation, especially my fans and parents, that I am back and ready to serve the country and my club.

I am working hard to get back in the national team,” said Leevi.

He said that despite giving reasons to coach Benjamin as to why he was late for training, Benjamin apparently did not want to hear any explanations and is still hoping for a future call-up.

At his age, there is no doubt that he is the future of the Brave Warriors alongside another exciting youngster, Prinz Tjiueza, as senior players like Absalom Iimbondi, Deon Hotto and Petrus Shitembi are already in their 30s, while Peter Shalulile is turning 30 next year.

“After scolding me at the training ground when I gave him reasons as to what got me late, he lastly told me to remove the training kit and go back to the north.

I didn’t say anything; I just removed the training gear and drove back to the north, but before that, I went to the training camp crying. I took my phone and wrote him a text message apologising, but he never answered me until today. I am still waiting for his response.
