Copa Coca-Cola heads to Gobabis

THE inaugural Copa Coca-Cola under 15 tournament will see top flight football showpiece taking center stage at the cattle town of Gobabis in the Omaheke region on Saturday.

Seven schools are expected to strut their stuff in the coveted tournament that saw  Coca-Cola injecting a cool N$ 1.4 million in the developmental prograsm that see learners from various schools throughout the country competing for top regional finals before heading to the national finals.

Football scouts are reportedly gracing the tournament with their presence in the hope of identifying talented players who will eventually represent the country at the Africa Cup showdown.

The tournament being played by over 60 countries worldwide recently kicked off in the Oshana region.

Copa Coca Cola under 15 boys football will feature the C Heuva Junior Secondary School, Epako High School, Johannes Dohren, Mokganedi Thlabanello  High School, Nossob Combined School, Rietquelle Junior Secondary School and Wennie du Plessis

On his part, Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU) Football coordinator Bessley Makaoula called on the residents from Gobabis to turn up in their hundreds in support of the young football players.

He said spectators will be treated to the very best grassroot football with the boys certainly set to impress.

Makaoula added that the NSSU executive in Omaheke has done extremely well in their preparation and that the national executive will only go and compliment their efforts.

Players of the different schools and spectators alike will get refreshments from Coca-Cola as the official sponsor.

Meawhile, district circuits in the //Kharas regions had their play offs during the past weekend with schools from Keetmanshoop, Karasburg and Luderitz compete for top honors.

He said the regional finals are scheduled for 29 June.
