By Michael Uugwanga

CRICKET is one of the few sports codes to be featured for the first time at the rescheduled All-African Games set for Ghana in March, where Cricket Namibia will send a team to represent the

country.

According to sources, the sports ministry did not include cricket in its preliminary budget for the All-Africa Games due to financial restrictions, but there appears to be a change of heart.

The 13th All-African Games are scheduled in Ghana from March 8 to March 23, 2024.

Speaking to Confidente, Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller said there will be a squad in Ghana due to the organisation's success over the last year, which saw both the men's senior and U-1 teams qualify for world tournaments.

Cricket Namibia had another successful year last year, with the men's senior team qualifying for the T-20 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States from June 1 to 29. The men's U-19 side is qualifying for this month's cricket World Cup in South Africa. "We are going to play in the All-African Games in our capacity, under the Namibian banner, and we have verified with the International Cricket Council (ICC) that we will be playing in the All-African Games, so we are set to play.
