The Chinese Embassy in Namibia hosted the second Spring Festival temple fair of the year on February 2.

The fair celebrated the Chinese Lantern Festival, which takes place on the 15th day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar.

The first Spring Festival was held on January 20 at the Country Club Resort.

Hundreds of people in attendance, among them politicians, including former President Dr Hifikepunye Pohamba, First Lady Susitjie Mbumba, Speaker of the National Assembly Peter Katjavivi, SWAPO SG Sophia Shaningwa, Khomas region Governor Laura Mcloed-Katjirua, the lantern show was an enjoyable feat providing guests with a chance to taste traditional Chinese food such as yuan xiao – glutinous rice balls.

The event featured a simplified version of the traditional Temple Fair, with festive cuisine and Beijing opera, incredible martial arts, Chinese calligraphy, and folk performances, all of which contributed to a warm and festive atmosphere for the Chinese community while allowing Namibians to experience Chinese traditional culture.
