THE Namibia Wrestling Federation (NWF) plans to hold the Desert Regional Wrestling Training and Tournament between June 30 and July 8, with the goal of fostering wrestling development in Namibia and Africa.

The Desert Regional Wrestling Training and Tournament will prepare U-17 wrestlers for the World Championships, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, at the end of July.

The week-long tournament will bring together local wrestling clubs from across the country, as well as visitors from neighbouring African countries.

NWF Secretary-General Rozanne van der Merwe said the event promises to foster sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and brotherhood among athletes and wrestling fans.

“Distinguished United World Wrestling guests will be in attendance to facilitate the training and provide invaluable expertise. Vincent Aka, a well-known coach educator, will be in attendance to share his wealth of expertise and views with prospective coaches from participating countries. In addition, Charles Villet, a well-known referee educator, will be on hand to provide advice and training to referees participating in the competition,” she said.
