Disgruntled NUST staff turns to union

… as restructuring exercise raises tensions

SENIOR staff members at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) have turned to the labour union, Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) for relief over a potential restructuring that will see some losing their jobs and others demoted.

This comes after Confidente recently reported that at least 80 foreign lecturers whose contracts will expire end of 2021 will not be renewed or alternatively, they must re-apply for their jobs, as per the strategic plan.

The new strategic plan being driven by NUST vice chancellor, Dr Erold Naomab which seeks to restructure the university will see the registrar operate at the same level as the deputy vice chancellors, while other leadership positions are dissolved to make way for new positions such as executive directors, chief financial officers and chief executive officers.
