Drive-through vaccination starts in Windhoek

THE Vaccination Drive-Through Station at the Windhoek Showgrounds started with its proceedings on Tuesday under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.
Entrance to the showgrounds is from Bell Street only and vaccinations will be done Tuesdays to Sundays only, from 10H00 to 18H00.
Walk-ins are also welcome and will be in a different line than the drive-through vaccinations.
Tuesday kicked off with only Sinopharm vaccines while Astra Zeneca and other vaccines will be added later once the Ministry of Health and Social Services receives the other vaccines.
The first Drive-Through vaccination initiative is powered by Gondwana Collection Namibia, the Gondwana Care Trust, First National Bank (FNB) Namibia, Vaccines for Hope and supported by several private companies under the umbrella of the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
All health and Covid-19 protocols are implemented and managed by OSH-Med international and E.M.A. Rescue Service, WestCare Medical Centre, Namibia Health Risk Solutions (NHRS) and Namibia Health Plan (NHP) medical aid fund.
Gondwana Collection Namibia’s managing director, Gys Joubert said the idea of the initiative is not to replace the standard vaccination sites, but to alleviate pressure on the existing vaccinating sites as well as to offer a vaccination facility that will be open on weekends as well.
“In these darkest of hours, we need each other. It is in these trying times that the true character of our nation will be tested – the real fiber of our society. We need to reach out, therefore, please bring along your grandparents and your vulnerable neighbours and your housekeepers as we want to make a small contribution in fighting Covid-19.
“The Vaccination Drive-Through Station will grant frontline workers (police, medical practitioners, fire-fighters and members of the defence force) preference to get vaccinated if they arrive in uniform or an official vehicle,” said Joubert
Other private companies that have contributed to the first Drive-Through vaccination are Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Group Namibia, Maerua Superspar, Baywash, Rent-a-Drum, Motor Media Namibia, Komnik & Franck, African Marketing, Kercon Food Enterprises, Seapride Foods, Konica Minolta, Windhoek Show Society, Food Lovers Market, Pupkewitz Group, Agra Limited and CYMOT.
