Everything happens for a reason – Shifeta

AFTER losing out on the Swapo Party vice Presidential post to Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah who is now the sitting party Vice President, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta has accepted defeat after telling Confidente everything happens for a reason.

According to Shifeta he plans to have a go at the party’s top post in the next elections.

Nandi-Ndaitwah was this week effectively confirmed as Swapo’s Presidential candidate and President, Hage Geingob’s successor. She defeated her ministerial boss, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and Shifeta.

Nandi-Ndaitwah garnered 491 votes, while Kuugongelwa-Amadhila received 270 and Pohamba Shifeta 91 votes.

Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa retained her position by defeating Oshikoto regional coordinator, Armas Amukwiyu when she received 430 votes to Amukwiyu’s 343 votes.

Shifeta said he was happy to be still part of the Central Committee (CC) committee.

“For the Vice President position of the party that l was contesting for, things happen for a reason so l am hoping for next time.

I have accepted the defeat. The party has arranged that whoever is picked, we rally behind them and follow their lead. For the CC position, l am happy to be there, everything is well,” he said.
