Fake bank notes drop in 2021

SOME 148 fake bank notes with total face value of N$20 130 were detected by the Bank of Namibia between January and November this year.

These figures are from the latest records that were made available to Confidente by the central bank deputy director of corporate communications Kazembire Zemburuka.

This figure is much lower than the N 960 for 354 counterfeit notes detected in 2020.

BoN states that the N0 bill remains the most duplicated bill.

Only one N note was duplicated this year, six N notes, 36 N notes, and 28 N0 fabricated notes were detected.

Last year, 23 N, 29 N, 59 N and 54 N0 fabricated notes were detected by the central bank.

However, no N dollar bill has been forged since it was launched earlier last year.
