THE Katutura Fashion Week Awards (KFWA) show held over the weekend saw fashion gurus and upcoming fashionistas walking away with different awards.

The KFW Awards took place on Saturday at the Franco Namibia Cultural Centre (FNNC) in Windhoek with 20 categories and 97 nominees for the year.

The International Designer of the Year was awarded to Zambian designer Annety Tantameni.

“This is to recognise international designers who have been taking part in the KFW since 2019,” one of the event organisers Jati Indongo said.

The awards show which was formed to complement the goals and objectives of Katutura Fashion Week (KFW) exclusively aimed at recognising and awarding the unrecognised or renowned but not awarded men and women who have worked hard in the fashion industry.

On the turn out, Indongo said the event was impressive with nominees and guests showing up in glamorous styles on the red carpet.

“This was the second time, the awards were held since 2019.

In 2020 the awards were not held due to Covid-19 regulations. The KFW organisers hope to introduce more categories in the future and to get more sponsors on board to support the event,” she added.

Now that the awards are out of the way, Indongo said the team is looking forward to the next event which will take place next year.

“Without so much sponsorship, I would say it was a success. It was really an amazing night. We hope that sponsors could come on board next year so we award those in the fashion industry with deserving prizes,” founder of the KFW Dennis Hendriks said.
