Flamingo Catering granted ISO food safety certification

THE Namibia Standards Institution (NSI) awarded Flamingo Inflight Catering Services with an ISO 22000 certification of conformity last week. Flamingo is a Namibian-owned company that caters for airlines and retail operators.

The certificate awarded to Flamingo is testimony that the company has demonstrated its commitment and will continue to do so, to proactively manage food safety hazards as a means of prevention rather than finished product inspection.

In a speech read on her behalf, NSI chief executive officer Chie Wasserfall said as an NSI certified company, Flamingo will be privileged to use the NSI Mark of Conformity to demonstrate that a product and the respective preparation processes have been independently verified for conformity to product standards and process controls.

The company is, however, obliged to ensure that it continues to satisfy the requirements of the ISO 22000 standard, as well as abide by the terms and conditions of the certification scheme, which will be monitored through surveillance audits at determined periods.

Flamingo general manager Kelvin Kaisi said the Flamingo brand came with a vision that has guided them over the past years, of excellence, as enshrined in their motto, “Excellence is our Habit.”

“The milestone of certification is a confirmation of our commitment to the success of our customers and stakeholders through the delivery of world-class products and services; for without them we would not have any reason to exist, let alone any food safety management system to have certified.”

Kaisi added that the day was a culmination of a dream born in 2012 when the company transitioned from Ububele Alpine to Flamingo Inflight Catering, a process that culminated in the localisation of the management of the company through to its eventual ownership as a wholly-owned and managed proudly Namibian company.

Flamingo’s current customers include Air Namibia, South African Airways, Eurowings, Shoprite Checkers Group and Amushe Business Class Lounge, amongst others.
