FNB WSL 2023 team of the season

• By Michael Uugwanga

THERE had been plenty of drama in the FNB Women Super League (WSL), from Tura Magic Ladies reclaiming the title to Girls & Goals surrendering the title and Omaheke Queens being relegated after winning only one game the whole season.

Who will ever forget Beauties FC striker Fiola’ Haaland’ Vliete’s 55 league goals, equaling Anna-Marie Shikusho’s all-time goals in a single season some years ago, and Vliete could add to her tally when her side squared off against Okahandja FC in the final game of the season?

The team that has been marvellous to watch has been V-Power Angels, despite it comprising mostly younger players that managed to go toe to toe against the best teams in the division thanks to their coach, Risto Shikomba, whose team has been playing free-flow football.

The best young talent in the division is Grace Eises of Omaheke Queens. At age 13, she scored seven goals, and I understand some of the top clubs are after her signature.

Before Millicent Hikuam of Tura Magic left for the USA, she was the most outstanding midfielder, and it’s a shame that such a talent will not be playing in our league next season.

The best defender in the division has to be Mbakondja Kahiriri of Beauties FC, who has been a rock for her team.

The goalkeeping department has been challenging, as no one has been consistent. However, Beauties FC and Brave Gladiators goalkeeper, Melissa Matheus, has been far better between the sticks when compared to other goalkeepers in a new, reformed Beauties team this season.
