FNB WSL to begin when Gladiators return from international duty: Traut
By Michael Uugwanga
DESPITE the Namibia Football Association (NFA) declaring that the FNB Women’s Super League (WSL) would begin on September 23, the association has now stated that the league will only start after the senior women’s team returns from international duty.
The senior women’s team, the Brave Gladiators, are currently involved in three international tournaments: the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the 2024 Olympic qualifiers, and the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Championships, which are currently taking place in South Africa.
In an exclusive interview, NFA’s secretary-general, Jochen Traut, told Confidente that the WSL will begin once the Brave Gladiators finish their busy schedule.
“The answer is simple: the Brave Gladiators are on tour for six weeks, so the entire squad is out of the country. The Brave Gladiators last played in Morocco against Gambia in Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and they are now in South Africa for COSAFA before returning to Morocco to play in Olympic qualifiers versus Morocco (twice in Morocco).
