From boxing to politics: Shikukutu works for next generation

By Michael Uugwanga

ONLY a few professional boxers have achieved international success, and for Sacky’  Izinyoka’ Shikukutu, being one of the country’s top pound-for-pound fighters was not enough, as he is now a political influencer having joined the Independent Patriot for Change (IPC).

Shikukutu retired from boxing earlier than expected due to an injury sustained after turning professional in 2008. His debut victory was over fellow Namibian boxer Bume Shitaleni at the Windhoek Country Club, and his last fight was a loss to Chris van Heerden of South Africa in 2016 at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, South Africa.

Shikukutu is a former Namibian welterweight champion as well as the International Boxing Organisation’s (IBO) All-Africa Welterweight Champion. Shikukutu, also known by his boxing alias Izinyoka, competed under the MTC Nestor’ Sunshine’ Tobias Fitness & Boxing Academy.
