By Michael Uugwanga

FORMER Tura Magic, Tigers, Civics, and Ramblers player in the Namibia Premier League, as well as an Ajax Cape Town (South Africa) player, Reginald Willemsen has become a futsal player, playing for Selecao Futsal Club in Swakopmund.

Willemse also played for junior national teams, most notably the U-20s, but decided to switch allegiance and join Futsal, a sport launched in the country a few years ago.

Futsal is a football-based game played on a hard court similar to a basketball court, but smaller than a football pitch and primarily indoors.

It is comparable to five-a-side games and indoor football.

Futsal is played between two teams of five players, with one goalkeeper.

“I’ve been playing standard football since I was seven. I began my soccer career at Civics before going to Ramblers. From there, I moved back to Swakopmund, where I joined Swakopmund Football Club (SFC).

I began playing Futsal five years ago.
