From Humble Beginnings to Award-Winning Scholar

Paulus Hamutenya, a second-year Bachelor of Science student, is carving a path of excellence.
During the 2024 NUST Annual Academic Awards, he was recently awarded a certificate of merit for the best second-year student in applied mathematics and statistics 2023.
Poised to become his family’s first-degree holder, the Bachelor of Science student majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics has consistently excelled as one of the top performers in his class.
Hailing from humble beginnings, Hamutenya draws motivation from his family and the aspiration to transform his familial legacy through education. “Changing my background is an incentive to me to keep pushing and do better and become the first person to receive a higher degree in my family,” he said. Hamutenya’s success story is also intertwined with the support he receives from ReconNamibia, an organisation providing scholarships to students from underprivileged backgrounds in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields.
