Shikongo pondering retirement

PARALYMPIC gold medalist, Ananias Shikongo is considering retiring after next year’s Paralympics in Paris, France.

Shikongo (37), one of the most successful athletes in the nation, won the gold medal in the T11 200 m in a record time of 22.44 seconds.

He also won other Paralympic medals, World Championships, and African tournaments medals.

Shikongo, competing in the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris, France, told Confidente that this is one of his last tournaments.

Shikongo said retiring now is out of the question, but the Para Athletics World Championships would be his second-last competition.

“I will see what will happen in my next competition at the Paralympics in Paris next year, as well as what will happen at this Para Athletics World Championships, and if I do well with my guide then I will plan for retirement next year,” he said.

Shikongo, who became the first man from Namibia to win a gold medal at an Olympic (Paralympic) sport, also took home bronze in the T11 100- and 400-meter sprints at the 2016 Paralympic Games.

He is the current 100-meter and 200-meter T11 (classified) African Sprint Champion.
