Geingob opens youth employment door

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has, in his state of the nation (Sona) delivered this week, opened the door to increased youth employment announcing raft measures that will help create opportunities for youth in the public service.

Geingob’s pro-youth Sona was subsequent to the national budget tabled late February which also was centred around creating opportunities for the youth.

In his address, Geingob noted that to facilitate work-integrated-learning for students and transition into the labour market for graduates, the government’s internship policy has been revised to ensure increased opportunities for internships, with two percent of the positions in the public service reserved for interns.

Moreover, about 62 percent of the public service positions do not require any prior work experience.
