Geingos contradicts Shifeta on Hage’s death lifespan

Former First Lady Monica Geingos contradicted a statement by the environment minister Pohamba Shifeta that her late husband confided in him that he only had six months to live.

Geingos, in a tribute during a recent memorial service at the Independence Stadium in the capital, dismissed such an assertion without referencing Shifeta, saying Geingob did not have any idea of his time left on planet earth before his untimely demise.

Shifeta was recently quoted as saying that Geingob told him he had six months to live.

Geingos, in her own words, characterised the death of the Head of State as “traumatising and unexpected.”

“Hage and I were informed by doctors on 16th January 2024 that he had cancer after a biopsy. We went to our first oncology visit on 17th January to devise a treatment plan. On 18th January, he insisted on releasing a press statement notifying the public that he had cancer. ‘Did he know how long he had to live? The answer is no, he didn’t,” said Geingos.
