Girls & Goals get tricky encounter as FNB WSL resumes

By Michael Uugwanga

THE FNB Women’s Super League (WSL) is set to return after nearly a month off for the holiday season, with Beauties FC hosting Ongwediva Queens at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Technical Center on January 20 at 16H00.

Seventh-place Beauties, who finished third in the last campaign, have a couple of games in hand which they will seek to maximise.

Beauties are in seventh place on the log with four points from two matches, while Ongwediva Queens have a point from two games and are ranked tenth out of the twelve teams.

Beauties have one of the country’s finest female lethal goal-poachers on their roaster, Fiola Vliete, who scored 57 league goals last season and has only scored one goal this season. The team also boosts the country’s best goalkeeper, Melissa Mateus, the Brave Gladiators’ first-choice ‘keeper.

In other matches on January 20, Okahandja FC will face the unpredictable UNAM Bokkies at Nau-Aib Stadium at 16H00, while injury-plagued Girls and Goals will travel to Swakopmund to face Namib Daughters at 15H00.
