Girls play barefooted at FA Girls n Goals tournament

By Michael Uugwanga
DUE to the lack of sponsorship and stigma associated with girls playing soccer, a group of young girls had to play football barefoot since they could not afford football boots at the recent Girls and Goals Football Festival, which was held over the weekend in Sivara Village in the Kavango West Region to promote football among girls.
More than 150 girls under the age of 13 participated in the festivals, which were partially funded by the Namibia Football Association (NFA), which contributed N$10,895.00.
Christofine Hausiku, chairman for women’s football in the Kavango West Region, told Confident they tried multiple times to secure sponsors for women’s football, including purchasing football boots, uniforms and other necessities, but were unsuccessful.
