Government Shouldn’t Politicize Essential Bread and Butter Issues

The leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Martin Lukato, has warned the government not to politicise essential bread-and-butter issues. At the press conference held on Monday in Windhoek, Lukato said the minister of mines and energy intervened after calls to and a petition that community activist Shaun Gariseb submitted to scrap the idea of increasing electricity tariffs. Lukato said his party is calling on the government to look beyond 2025 and provide long-term solutions, as suggested by Gariseb.

“Government must not wait for petitions and demonstrations to do things they are supposed to do in the interests of all Namibians. The government must always do things rights,” Lukato said. At the press conference, Lukato further outlined his party campaign voice strategies, which he
said will reach all 14 regions. “Our party will be visible everywhere in Namibia. We will be campaigning in every corner of the country to spread our awareness messages,” he said. He further highlighted that for the elections to be successful, all eligible voters must register to vote.

“As the NDP, we are appealing to all Namibians living in the country or outside to register their selves in order to participate in this year’s elections. It is our fundamental right to vote, and through our votes, we can elect the leaders we want to represent us,” Lukato said.
He also added that his party will participate in the National Assembly and the presidential elections scheduled in November. “We will not form part of any coalition. The NDP will be participating in both elections, and we are hopeful that we will emerge victorious. We are confident to say that we are ready for the elections” Lukato said.
