Gunners tell rivals to forget MTC NNPL

COACH of Otjiwarongo-based Netball Club Mighty Gunners, says her team will win the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League (MTC NNPL) this season.

Hilma Dawid has told Confidente that her players are highly motivated this season and that they know very well what they have to do on the courts.

Mighty Gunners, undefeated this season, are currently on top of the log with 30 points .They are set to play against Otjiwarongo NamPol Netball Club and Grootfontein Netball Club this coming weekend.

“We are ready to win the league title. The players train so hard and they do not want to lose a match.  We constantly remind the players of the bonuses they will get once they win the league title. The other teams should forget about the league title,” Dawid said.

Reigning champions of the MTC NNPL, Namibian Correction Services (NCS) Netball Club, won the title on the last day of last season under  Manuel  Masie Tjivera

They now have a new coach, Losony Tjitemisa, who has said the team is working hard to retain the title.

“We are just focusing on ourselves. We are not worried about what Mighty Gunners or other teams are doing.

Perhaps the only thing that can stop us from winning is our own downfall. Our aim is to win the title,” Tjitemisa said.

Meanwhile, the Sports officer for the third placed Navy Netball Club, Charles  Muukua, has told Confidente that his side has a big say in the title race.“Yes, we also have a chance of winning the title. Only the last games will determine the winner. It is still too early to say it,” Muukua said.

Meanwhile, Grootfontein Netball club coach, Sunday Angala, has sent a warning to log leaders, Mighty Gunners, saying her team has what it takes to become the first team to stop the  free-scoring Gunners from winning.

Angala’s  side  are second from  the bottom with six points.

“Our target is to finish in the mid-table.  We will fight it out against Mighty Gunners. We want to make history by becoming the first team to beat them,” Angala has said.

Hilka Shivolo, captain of bottom of the table Northern Bailers Netball Club, assessed the prospects of her  team, “To be honest surviving the league is not in question anymore because we are the last on the log with only two games remaining.”

The MTC NNPL is expected to end  08 October.
