Hermanus eyes top three AFCON finish

GILLIAN Hermanus says she is confident Namibia will take a top three spot in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Paris Olympic qualifiers set for Pretoria from October 29 to November 5. I believe that with a positive and determined attitude, we will finish in the top three in the qualifiers,” she said. Hermanus is one of the few hockey players who has represented the country in every age group, and her inclusion in the squad for the National Outdoor Women’s team set to compete in the AFCON qualifiers is no surprise.

The AFCON outdoor women’s games will pit the country against the finest outdoor playing nations on the continent, including host South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana, to name a few. The 25-year-old Hermanus resides in Cape Town, South Africa, where she studies and plays hockey for the University of the Western Cape. She has represented the country at the U/14, U/16, U/18, and U/21 levels and will be playing her 18th test match for the senior team since making her debut against South Africa in 2019.
